A great article about embracing birthfamilies

I read this article Adoption - Adoptive Families this morning on the Adoptive Families website. I absolutely covet this adoptive mother.

What she describes is exactly what I would desire my relationship be with the family who adopted my daughter. I want to have a relationship with not only my daughter, but with their entire family.

I love the concpet of returning to the well. What a beautiful analogy.

It is a situation like this where the focus is on the needs of the CHILD, not the adults, that reminds me again that adoption done well can be rewarding for all involved in the triad.

Hooray for adoptive families who love their children this much!

Her blog was one of the first adoption blogs I read. Thanks for posting the link to the article.

I really loved this article, and it makes excellent sense about "the well". Nothing but GOOD can come of children interacting with and building relationships with as much of their family tree (abusive and toxic and dangerous people excluded) as possible. I sometimes think way, way off into the future when my daughter is in her teen years or beyond and she is old enough to comprehend the gift that being raised by her parents was...not that me raising her would have been bad, but the family she is growing up in now is not what I could have provided for her. I think she will appreciate knowing me and connecting with me on a special level, but also, when she goes back home, will hug her mom extra tight because she is happy to have had her for a mom. And the thought of her being grateful and happy and feeling fortunate to have her mom as her mom doesn't make me sad one bit. That's the mom I wanted for her! I think there is something I have that she can't get from her mom and there's definitely going to be a very clear distinction of what she gained from having her mom as her mom. This is rambling but loved the article ;)

Awesome article. I really enjoyed reading that and pray for that kind of relationship for our family, child and his/her birth mother.

I came over here not expecting to find this! Thank you so much for the shout-out and the kind words. Doesn't happen very often, but I'm speechless ;-)
